ORID Welcomes New Board Members

Please welcome our new board members and express our gratitude to those stepping down. Andrew Weaver (Portland) is our new Vice President. He was previously and still is active on the website committee. He is full of ideas and is challenging me to do some new things (vlogs) since our site can handle those now. He replaces Lydia Pickard who was a long time board member with incredible ideas and an eye for detail. She will remain actively involved with the workshop committee. Sarah Hill (Monmouth) is our new Secretary. She is a transplant from the East Coast and is experiencing Oregon and all its beauty. Already her perspective is fresh and new and I look forward to working with her. She replaces Tina McDaniel . Tina’s spunk and playfulness will be missed. She did a great job as secretary. Lori Salus (Corvallis)is our new MAL (Member at Large #2)....

National Conference - NOLA #2

Monday, August 10, 2015 Plenary Session: Social Justice Some powerful stories this morning related to social justice from different avenues of impact.  I'm still processing the session itself, but it reinforced the privilege piece of human life.  Some people have a lot of privilege and other are limited.  One comment that struck me was if I have a choice I have privilege. I have not thought of it from that perspective before.  Good stuff.   CPC Committee Revision Meeting Wow!  Again this group is doing some phenomenal work.  They have some recommendations for the Board to consider and those were discussed.  They are suggesting that the committee become a task force and have more time to sieve out the information collected thus far and continue with their work. I would encourage all members to respond to their surveys or request for information.  Only about 12% of RID members and 3%...

National Conference - NOLA

Hey there Oregon interpreters!  Saturday, August 8, 2016 I'm here at NOLA.  This morning were 2 great plenary sessions.  The first discussed findings about the standards of Educational Interpreters and their state requirements.  Some great information. I hope that you were one of the 465 interpreters who joined via streaming.  The second spoke about preparing interpreters for tomorrow.  What the trends are and what can we possibly foresee in the future.  Both were informative and interesting. Executive Director Search The committee itself is doing amazing work and the process is laid out well. (In my opinion)  After surveying RID members, requesting RID Board and HQ staff input, the committee has a clear picture of what RID needs.  In the process the committee will do an initial screening of applicants and provide a final list to the board who will then decide.  Questions surrounding how members might be able to see...
